Virginia S. Prothro, 97, of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Grace Point Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 13, 1921, to George Dewey and Jessie Frances Humphries Sturdivant in Urbana.

She was a member of East Faulkner Church of Christ and a member of the DAR for many years. Her employment included Root Refinery, Woolworth Department Store, and several furniture stores including the Carriage House in Little Rock. Virginia was involved in Scouts, band and other school activities that her children participated in.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband of 68 years, William Fred Prothro; and daughter, Fredda F. Lackey.

Survivors include her son, Benjamin “Benji” Prothro (Toni) of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Earlene Cameron of Shreveport, Louisiana; granddaughters, Amanda Lackey Chennault (John) of Ruston, Louisiana, Michelle Lackey Poer (Trey) of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren, Kade Biscomb of Ruston, Louisiana, Rachel, William and Laura Chennault of Ruston, Louisiana; and son-in-law, Art Lackey of Huttig.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Young’s Chapel with Charles Cameron and Kenny Cameron officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to her sister-in-law, Emily Prothro, cousins, Oma Sue and Keith Harter, and the staff of Ella Manor and Grace Point for their constant care of Virginia.
