Preston Hammett

Preston D. Hammett, 82, of El Dorado passed away March 2, 2018 at his home in El Dorado.

Preston was born on July 21, 1935 in Henderson, Texas to Dovard and Ruth Millstead Hammett. He worked as an operator for AMOCO at the El Dorado Refinery and later established Hammett Poultry farm for Pilgrim Pride. He was a member of Three Creeks Baptist Church teaching the Senior Adults Sunday school class. Preston loved his family and enjoyed going to Canton, Texas antiquing. He was a longtime member of Three Creeks Boys Deer Club.

Preston started the Three Creeks Little League Baseball with a record for 2 years of 38 – 0. Coached Airport Baseball from 1983-1988 and coached Dixie League 20 years and was president until 2007. He did mission work making 30 trips to Brazil up the Amazon River with the last trip of a team of eight in August of 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; a great granddaughter Addie Major and first wife, Clair Jo Parker Hammett, the mother of his sons.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years Annette Groves Hammett; sons Gary Hammett (Brenda) of El Dorado, Joe Paul Hammett (Connie) of Junction City, Randy Hammett of Troupe, Texas; stepdaughters Rebecca Mitchell (Bill) of Baton Rouge, LA, Sonya Ott (Tim) of Gloster, LA and Kim Major (Gary) of Junction City. His grandchildren - Callie Sampson (Jonathan), Lane Hammett, Jessica Hammett, Jordan Hammett, Kalan Hammett, Parker Hammett and step grandchildren Nichole Speed (Garrett), Drew Maroney (Tiffany), Sarah Meshell (Kevin), Wesley Cassell, Eric Major (Whitney), Blake Major and Connor Cates; twenty great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 4th at Three Creeks Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 5, 2018 at Three Creeks Baptist Church with Rev. Lowell Snow, Rev. Bob Inmon and Rev. Ross Woodbury officiating. Interment will follow at Three Creeks Baptist Church Cemetery.
