Strong’s season ends

MORRILTON - A second-half rally led to Strong's season to come to an end, as Western Grove rallied past Strong 59-54 in the opening round of the 1A State Tournament on Thursday.

Strong led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter and 34-25 at halftime, but the Warriors fought back and sliced the Bulldogs' lead to 43-42 after three periods of play before holding off a final shot to advance.

Down 57-54, Emauri Newton had a 3-pointer fall just short, and the Warriors added a final basket to make the final margin.

Jadarrius Dixon led Strong (15-15) with 20 points.

Trey Smith and Derrion Davis were also in double figures with 14 points and 10 points respectively.

Hunter Baker had 25 points for Western Grove.

MORRILTON - Strong' season came to an end in the opening round of the 1A State Tournament thanks to a fourth-quarter run by the Lady Leopards.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 34-30 after three quarters of play, but Alpena limited Strong to only five points in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Dynasty Davis had 15 points and Chrishunda Williams finished with 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished the season with a 21-8 record.
