Drillers sweep past Trojans

PARKERS CHAPEL - Thanks to a huge rally and a great pitching performance, the El Dorado Drillers were able to come away with a doubleheader sweep of Parkers Chapel Thursday night.

The Drillers scored 11 runs in the fifth to top the Trojans 14-13 in the opener before winning the nightcap 9-2.

Charles Hoof, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the opener, belted a two-run homer as part of the Drillers’ rally in the fifth.

Nathan Baker also had a key hit in the fifth with a three-run double.

In addition to Hoof, Jacob Eubanks and Jack Smith also had three-hit games for the Drillers.

Eubanks went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, while Smith scored a run and drove in a run while also going 3-for-4.

Eli Fields went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Landon Rainwater finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Christian Webb was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Tanner McLelland was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI.

Baylor Brumley walked twice, stole two bases and scored two runs.

Michael Brotherton had a three-hit game for the Trojans, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.

Thomas Hardy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Tyler Martin went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

In addition to his three-hit game, Eubanks was the winning pitcher, working three innings in relief.

He allowed five hits and four runs with only one run being earned. He walked four and struck out three.

Martin turned in a solid outing for the Trojans before departing. He scattered seven hits and three runs (two earned) in four innings of work. He walked one and struck out five.

In the second game, the Drillers scored five runs in the first and Westdan Owens took matters from there, going the distance with a two-hitter.

Owens walked four and struck out five.

Webb paced the Drillers’ offense, driving in four runs while going 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored.

Smith followed his three-hit game by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base in the win.

Brumley also had a perfect day at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a double, a triple, a walk, a stolen base and an RBI.

Fields was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored, while McLelland went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run scored.

Nik Garcia was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs and Austin Looney went 1-for-1 with a double and a walk for the Trojans.

The Drillers and Trojans are scheduled to renew acquaintances next Friday at Norphlet for a doubleheader of two five-inning games, capping a busy week for the Drillers, who will play a doubleheader against Smackover Monday before hosting the Monroe (La.) Nationals Tuesday.
