JOYCE A. CARTER

Joyce Ann Collins Carter of El Dorado passed peacefully away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 following a brief illness. A sixty-year resident of El Dorado, Joyce was born on Jan. 7, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia to Lonie and Bennie Collins. She met her husband of fifty-two years, James Edward “Jimmy” Carter and moved to El Dorado to raise their family. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son John H. Carter, and her brother Vernon Collins.

Joyce graduated from Commercial High School in Savannah. She spent many years raising her family and when her children were older, she found happy employment putting her meticulous bookkeeping skills to use, first at Rushing Oil, and then for many years at South Arkansas Oil Company, finally retiring to have more time for grandchildren and a true passion - golf. Joyce found great friendships in the WGA through the years that she and Jimmy were members at the Smackover Country Club and the El Dorado Golf and Country Club, even having a tournament named in her honor, the Carter Cup.

Besides golf, her other passions were her grandchildren and traveling to “the boat” with dear friends. Joyce enjoyed traveling with family and walked a million miles on some of those trips.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Debbie Carter Mulvenna and husband Carlo of New Orleans, grandchildren James Alexander Mulvenna of New Orleans and Ryan Elizabeth Mulvenna of Washington DC, sisters-in-law Mary Ruth Ball of Hermitage and Atlanta, Jeanette Collins of Savannah, brothers-in-law and love Bob Lukas of Benton, and Beverly Joel Lambert III of Little Rock, her nieces, nephews, extended Mulvenna family, and many friends.
