Two men received minor injuries Friday when the single-engine plane they were in crashed near Three Creeks in Union County.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in from Columbia County at 1:11 p.m. Friday near Salem Road. Sheriff Ricky Roberts said the two unnamed men were contracted by a local company to fly over and check pipelines when “it appears that they had ran out of gas.”

“They were trying to land in the dirt road that goes down between this cutover,” Roberts said. “They touched down and the plane hit a hill and it just flipped over. … They were trying to make it back to the airport to refuel when they ran out.”

Roberts said the two men, both from Cleveland, Mississippi, and working with Blue Airlines, suffered minor injuries.

“They’re lucky,” Roberts said. “They’re very blessed is what they are.”
