An El Dorado man was shot at least twice late Friday afternoon at a local apartment complex and the alleged shooter was taken into custody a short time later.

At approximately 5:41 p.m., El Dorado police responded to a report of shots fired and a person hit at Hillsboro Town House Apartments, 1600 Short E. Hillsboro.

Khemo T. Caver, 39, was struck in the thigh and ankle or shin area, said Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department.

Caver was transported to Medical Center of South Arkansas for treatment.

His injuries were not life-threatening, Holt said.

James Burton was taken into custody for the shooting a short time later and booked into the Union County Jail.

Residents, passers-by and other onlookers were scattered about the area surrounding apartment building B9, where a window was shattered in front of the building and shoes and what appeared to be clothing were strewn on the sidewalk.

Officers from the EPD and UCSO piled into the apartment complex, searching the perimeter and dotting the area with yellow crime scene markers.

Holt said officers recovered a couple of shell casings from the scene.

Initial reports indicated that the victim and suspect were involved in a foot chase as shots were fired, but Holt said the information had not been confirmed Friday night.

“If that happened, that endangers a lot more people, and charges could be upgraded after we gather additional facts,” Holt said.
