Ancient Words: Walk to Emmaus, A Walk with King David

King David, as prophet, tells of the Christ to come more than anyone else as seen in these selected gems of truth:

Psalm 2:7 — I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Psalm 16:8-10 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Psalm 22:1 To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? Psalm 22:16-18 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

Psalm 31:5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.

Psalm 34:19-20 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Psalm 69:4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. Psalm 69.21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Psalm 107:28-29 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.

Psalm 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Psalm 118.22 The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

Psalm 132:11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.

2Sa 23:1-7 These are the last words of David: “The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse, the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, the hero of Israel’s songs: “The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: ‘When one rules over people in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.’ “If my house were not right with God, surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part; surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire. But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand. Whoever touches thorns uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear; they are burned up where they lie.”

He Sets The Captives Free

This past Wednesday 12 youth soccer players and their coach were released from a hospital in Thailand after being rescued from a flooded cave for more than 14 days! They entered the cave to explore but later found that the entrance had become flooded and they were trapped. After many days of trying to dig and claw their way to freedom they were rescued! They were thankful to be saved yet remorseful because they knew it was “off limits” and a rescue diver lost his life on their behalf.

In life we sometimes tend to seek adventure in things and places we know are “off limits” and find ourselves trapped in situations that we can’t escape. I am so thankful for a savior who came into this world to save us from our sins, who breaks the chains of bondage, and frees us from those dark places! Jesus surrendered his life so that we could be free from anything that holds us captive, and Hallelujah He is alive today to help us continue to live victorious!

There’s an old hymn that we sing and it poses this question : ‘Would you be free from your burden of sin? There’s power in the blood, power in the blood. Would you o’er evil a victory win? There’s wonderful power in the blood.” (Lewis E. Jones, 1899)

Jesus shed His blood so that we may be free.

“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
