JERRY RAINWATER SR.

JERRY RAINWATER SR.

Jerry Vernoid Rainwater, Sr., age 83, passed peacefully from this life at the John. R. Williamson Hospice House surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 5, 2018. He was born August 29, 1934 to Amy Dell Davis and Gus Thurman Rainwater.

Jerry was a 1952 graduate of El Dorado High School and served in the Army National Guard. In more recent years, he could be found at Rainwater Wholesale Supply drinking coffee with friends as he awaited his customers. He loved watching sports, but most of all he loved following his grandchildren all over the state to watch them play ball or play in the band, rarely missing a game or performance. On fall Friday nights, he could be found cheering on the Wildcats or some other local team. He enjoyed spending time on the river bank at Felsenthal with his family and friends and was always up for a good boat ride to find where the bream were biting.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, a son, Phillip Rainwater, infant great granddaughter, Payton King, and a brother A.G. Rainwater.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen, who he married in 1954, sons Jerry Rainwater, Jr. (Karin), George Rainwater (Yvonne), Todd Rainwater (Cindi), a daughter, Cheryl Moore, grandchildren Mindy King, Heather Tumey, Phillip Rainwater, Jr., Megan Rainwater, Joshua Rainwater, Serena Lemley, Briana Moore and Benjamin Moore, 14 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Julius Rainwater and Leon Rainwater, and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Rainwater, Ricky Rainwater, Scotty Rainwater, Les Cardin, Allen Johnson, and Joe Gallea. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Ready Sunday School Class of Ebenezer Baptist Church, which Jerry loved to attend on Sunday mornings.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 8 from 5-7 at Perry’s Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday, July 9th at 10am at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3408 N. Wyatt Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the John R. Williamson Hospice House or Ebenezer Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 1105 W. 6th Street.
