GERRY M. BUSSELL

Gerry Michael Bussell, 65, of Smackover passed away Jan. 27, 2018 after a brief illness at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

Gerry was born Aug. 9, 1952, tenth child of Ed and Hazel-teen White Bussell. A long time oil field worker, he was currently employed by ArkLaTx Operating.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, oldest brother Mitchell, infant brother Ed, Jr., and granddaughter Paige Alphin.

Gerry enjoyed all sports and travelled widely to support local football and baseball teams, especially his alma mater Buckaroos. He loved life and making people laugh. Always quick with a joke or a silly grin, he had a gift for making everyone feel special. He would say something outrageous and then giggle and say “But you know I love you”.

Cherishing many wonderful memories of him are his wife of 47 years, Karen, much loved daughters Mary Catherine Cheatham (Eric) of Little Rock and Andrea Candace Alphin of Smackover, adored grandchildren, Savannah Lee Horne of Little Rock, Gerrett Michael Alphin and Doyne Alexander Alphin of Smackover, brothers Tommy Bussell (Cathy), Joppie Bussell (Tina), Steve Bussell (Shielia), sisters Peggy Davis (Elvis), Nell Stevens (R T), Elaine Wright (Glen), Cherry Saulsbury (Joel), Lottie Preston (Larry), Jane Clemens (Johnny), Betsy Goss (Greg), Collete Kersh (Billy), and a special sister-in-law Melba Bussell and many many nieces and nephews along with countless special friends and loved ones.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Smackover with Dr. Walter “Bubba” Smith and Bro. Robert Thornton officiating. Cremation services entrusted to Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church until service time.
