The South Arkansas Arts Center has announced dates for its bi-annual open photography competition, “The Viewfinder.”

The competition is open to any type of photographic cameras - SLR, digital, Polaroid or cellphone. The competition, sponsored by William P. Cook & Associates, PLLC, has an entry deadline of Jan. 31. The exhibition will be held Feb. 2-27.

Cash prizes will be awarded for best of show, first, second and third places, as well as for honorable mention. Entries must be original photographs taken with any type of camera that are framed and ready for display in the gallery. Photographers may use basic corrective editing in the dark room or digitally, but no graphic manipulations or touch-ups are allowed.

An artist’s reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 10, with the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m.

Photographs must have been taken in the last five years and not previously shown at SAAC. No work done under supervision or in a classroom environment will be accepted. Each piece must be framed appropriately with a sufficient hanging method. The judge and show chairperson have final authority to define what constitutes an acceptable entry.

Terrance Armstard, photographer and news editor with the El Dorado News-Times, will judge “The Viewfinder.”

To enter, submit up to two framed photographs along with a completed entry form and the entry fee of $10 for SAAC members and $15 for the general public for each piece. One free entry is allowed for new SAAC members.
