Wildcats fall short to Yellowjackets

SHERIDAN - The third place game in the 6A West Tournament turned into a free throw shooting contest Saturday. Sheridan ended up beating El Dorado 74-61 in a game that featured 77 total free throws.

The Wildcats fell to 13-16 and will take the No. 4 seed into the 6A State Tournament at West Memphis. El Dorado will play Jacksonville on Wednesday, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Tyler Cleveland pumped in 39 points to lead the Yellowjackets. Cleveland hit 14-of-18 at the free throw line. Matthew White chipped in 20 points for Sheridan, which improved to 15-14.

B.J. Johnson led El Dorado with 20 points. The junior hit 13-of-16 at the free throw line. Brendan Simmons and Keshun Greene contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively for the Wildcats.

El Dorado shot 21-of-37 at the foul line while the Yellowjackets connected on 27-of-40 free throw attempts.

The game was knotted at 12-12 after one quarter before Sheridan built a 31-23 advantage at the half.
