PARKERS CHAPEL - Dawson Goodwin scored 23 points with none bigger than his last two, as his buzzer-beater lifted Parkers Chapel past Bearden 58-56 in the finals of the 7-2A East District Tournament on Friday night.

"He came off a ball screen and took the ball up and scored over two defenders," Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley said of Goodwin's game-winner.

The game was a nip-and-tuck affair all evening long.

Parkers Chapel led 11-9 after the opening period, but the Bears rallied to take a 27-26 lead at intermission.

The game was tied at 34-all through three periods of play.

"We trailed most of the game, but we never let them get away from us," Langley said. "We battled and battled the whole game."

It looked like the Trojans were going to pull away in the fourth quarter, but the Bears rallied to tie the game.

"We took the lead and got up six, but Bearden made some big stops and tied the game," Langley said.

However, Goodwin's shot would be the final say on matters.

In addition to Goodwin, Josh Osborn had 14 points and Nate Garrett-Evans added 13 points.

Parkers Chapel (25-3) will be the 7-2A East's No. 1 seed for next week's regional tournament at Poyen.

Davarius Hughes had 22 points for the Bears.
