Trojans, Bulldogs to play for titles

PARKERS CHAPEL - Dawson Goodwin was one of three players in double figures with 19 points, as Parkers Chapel knocked off Harmony Grove 60-52 to advance to the finals of the 7-2A East District Tournament on Thursday night.

The Trojans will face Bearden for the league crown tonight.

In the first encounter at Parkers Chapel, the Trojans needed overtime to dispatch the Hornets.

On Thursday, the Trojans pulled away methodically to top the Hornets.

Parkers Chapel led 20-13 after the opening stanza and 34-24 at intermission before extending their lead to 45-30 after three periods of play.

Josh Osborn and Nate Garrett-Evans each had 15 points for Parkers Chapel.

Johnny Pierce had 14 points to lead Harmony Grove.

DERMOTT - Four players collaborated for 74 of Strong's 76 points, as the Bulldogs advanced to the finals of the 8-1A East District Tournament despite Woodlawn burying 14 3-pointers in the contest.

Derrion Davis had 23 points and Trey Smith finished with 22 points for the Bulldogs, who rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half only to see the Bears force overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Jadarrius Dixon added 19 points with five of those points coming in overtime. Davis scored the remaining six points the Bulldogs tallied in the extra session.

Desmond Newton was also in double figures with 10 points for Strong, who will take on Dermott for the championship tonight.

Strong got out of the gates quickly by taking a 21-8 lead after the opening period, but the Bears rallied to take a 30-28 lead at intermission.

Woodlawn led 48-42 after three quarters of play before the game was tied at 65-all at the end of regulation.

SMACKOVER - Jerrodney Tubbs had 16 points and Jalen Davis finished with 12 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Owls downed the Dragons in the semifinals of the 8-3A District Tournament.

Junction City rallied from a 31-24 deficit at halftime to tie the game at 40-all after three periods before the game went to overtime with the schools knotted at 50.

The third-seeded Dragons will hold the same seed for next week's regional tournament.
