Medical Center of South Arkansas CEO Scott Street is sharing the vision to make El Dorado a destination for health care, not only for Union County residents, but also for patients across southern Arkansas and northern Louisiana.
As the keynote speaker for the 2018 Go Red for Men and Women Luncheon, Street will introduce the overview of destination health care for MCSA at the luncheon, which will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Griffin Music Hall.
“As we grow our services, people will become more confident their health needs can be met here,” Street said. “Quality health care is not restricted to specific geographic locations or large populations. The key is offering signature clinical programs to patients so they do not have to travel hours to receive specialty care.”
“Health care is a major component of Union County’s current and future economy,” Street continued. “Creating infrastructure to support continued growth of MCSA’s health care providers and optimize the patient experience in El Dorado is a top priority of ours. We believe our vision will not only advance the health of our community and beyond, it will strengthen the financial future in our community.”
Joining Street in the program are survivors Judith Fussell and Mike Morton, and his friend/caregiver BJ Darden. They are advocates for heart health in the community and will share personal experiences by video.
Education and awareness are powerful messages for prevention, early detection and proper treatment. Symptoms are usually different for men and women, and everyone needs to know the signs of a heart attack for themselves and their family members.
The Go Red event will offer free health screenings as part of the Heart Health Fair from 11 a.m.-noon to allow attendees to learn personal health numbers including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) and assess risk for heart disease and stroke.
Medical staff from the Heart & Vascular Center, Cardiac Rehab, Wound Care Center and the MCSA Emergency Department (Trauma, Stroke and Chest Pain) will answer questions and provide health tips for making lifestyle choices to support heart health.=
The event also will include a silent auction from 11 a.m. to noon, with items ranging from golf packages to beauty/relaxation baskets to airline tickets to advertising packages all donated by area merchants. The speakers and lunch will follow from noon to 1 p.m.
