Drew Central knocks off Smackover 63-38

SMACKOVER - After picking up a thrilling victory on Monday over Lake Village to clinch a spot in next week's regional tournament, Smackover came up short in the semifinals of the 8-3A District Tournament on Wednesday, falling to top-seeded Drew Central 63-38.

The Pirates will play the winner of tonight's semifinal between Junction City and McGehee for the district crown on Friday night.

Roshard Boone had nine points for the fourth-seeded Bucks (6-18), who will be the league's No. 4 seed for the regional tournament.

Trent Eubanks had 13 points and Monteil Daniels chipped in with 10 points for the Pirates.

SMACKOVER ADVANCES TO FINALS

Janiya Murphy had nine points, as Smackover's junior girls basketball team advanced to the finals of the 8-3A District Tournament.

Adriana Grant chipped in with eight points for the Lady Bucks, who will the play the winner of today's semifinal between Fordyce and Drew Central for the title on Friday.

DRAGONS COME UP SHORT IN OVERTIME

Cameron Frazier had 12 points, but it wasn't enough, as Junction City's junior boys fell to McGehee 42-40 in overtime in the semifinals of the 8-3A District Tournament.

Tanner Barnett had eight points, while Tate Barnett had six points and Zak Brown added five points for the Dragons, who led 24-18 after three periods, but couldn't hold off a fourth-quarter rally by the Owls.
