Junction City, Smackover advance

SMACKOVER - The second quarter proved to be the difference for Junction City on Tuesday night, as the Dragons overcame a slow start to top Fordyce 54-40 at the 8-3A District Tournament.

The win sends the third-seeded Dragons (16-9) into next week's 4-3A Regional Tournament.

After trailing 11-10 after the opening period, the Dragons outscored the Redbugs 20-2 in the second period to take a 30-13 halftime lead.

The Dragons led the sixth-seeded Redbugs 42-23 after three periods before winning by the final margin.

Terrell Gibson led a balanced attack with 11 points for the Dragons.

Shuvasceiaye Frazier added nine points, while Jerrodney Tubbs had eight points and Hishmma Taylor scored seven points in the win.

Junction City will face McGehee in the semifinals on Thursday night.

MCGEHEE 31

SMACKOVER - The Lady Bucks advanced in the 8-3A District Tournament with a win over the Lady Owls.

Sharnes McGhee led Smackover with 13 points.

Camree Jones and Jordyn White added eight and six points, respectively.

Denise Johnson led McGehee with 14.

The victory not only clinches a spot in next week's 4-3A Regional Tournament for the third-seeded Lady Bucks (14-11), it sets up a showdown with No. 2 seed Junction City on Thursday night.
