PC falls in junior high finals

HARMONY GROVE - Four free throws in the final 40 seconds in regulation proved to be the difference, as Spring Hill topped Parkers Chapel 23-20 to win the 7-2A East Junior High District Tournament on Monday.

The Lady Trojans trailed 10-4 at intermission before fighting back to take a 20-19 lead in the final minute of the game.

However, the aforementioned free throws gave Spring Hill the lead for good.

Ali Looney had nine points and Taylor Fortune finished with four points for the Lady Trojans.

COUGARS TOP TROJANS

HARMONY GROVE - Evan Younger had 16 points, but it wasn't enough, as Lafayette County downed Parkers Chapel 45-34 in the finals of the 7-2A East Junior High District Tournament.

After leading 14-12 at the end of the opening period, the Trojans trailed 22-16 at intermission and 30-21 after three quarters of play.

"No matter what was going on, we never gave up," said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. "We were able to pull within three in the fourth before they were able to pull away from us."

Lancer Clark and Austin Looney added six points apiece for the Trojans.

"I'm really proud of how we continued to get better throughout the season," Langley said. "Our kids worked extremely hard, and they got a lot better from start to finish. I think this group has a really good future, and I'm excited to see what they can accomplish down the road."

DRAGONS KNOCK OFF BUCKS

SMACKOVER - Junction City's junior boys basketball advanced at the 8-3A Junior High District Tournament with a 56-28 win over Smackover.

The Dragons led 19-1 after the opening period, and never looked back.

Cameron Frazier had 14 points to lead the Dragons, while Jeremiah Williams and Ryan Allen had eight points apiece.

Devontay Gilbert chipped in with seven points for the Dragons, who will face McGehee at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

LADY WILDCATS CAP SEASON WITH WIN

TEXARKANA - Joi Johnson's lone points of the game were the most important, as her basket with three seconds left lifted El Dorado's freshman girls basketball team to a 33-31 win over Texarkana in their season finale.

Tajah Edmondson has 12 points for El Dorado (13-3).

Erica Moore, who tied the game with a outback, scored eight points.

EHS ROLLS AT HOME

Jarmel Love had 25 points and James Hartsfield III added 23 points, as El Dorado's freshman boys basketball team cruised to a 65-50 win over Texarkana in their final game of the season.

Isaiah Ramey added points for the Wildcats (8-8).

LADY WILDKITTENS END SEASON ON HIGH NOTE

TEXARKANA - Kalese Moseby had 13 points, as Barton's eighth-grade girls basketball team downed Texarkana 30-12 to finish the season on a positive note.

Kyra Harris had eight points for the Lady Wildkittens (11-10).

BARTON CRUISES TO WIN IN FINALE

Barton's eighth-grade boys basketball team rolled to a 62-27 win over Texarkana in their final game of the 2017-18 campaign.

Sharmon Rester had 11 points and Kamron Bibby added 10 points in the win.

Austin Jobe added nine points for the Wildkittens (15-9).
