SouthArk to host FBLA-PBL

To celebrate Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda Week, the South Arkansas Community College Sigma Epsilon Chapter of PBL is sponsoring a seminar, Road Map to Success, at 9:30 a.m. today in the SouthArk Library.

El Dorado Mayor Frank Hash will begin the program with a proclamation, and dean Sherry Howard of workforce development and continuing education will discuss strategies for success in the business world.

Howard is a former director of the Arkansas Women’s Business Center with 18 years of management experience in banking, retail and education.

FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit vocational student organization that prepares students for careers in business and business education.

South Arkansas Historical Preservation Society sells historic Valentine’s gifts

The South Arkansas Historical Preservation Society is offering historic Valentine’s Day gift boxes that include handmade sweets and a vintage Valentine card.

The society is selling a limited amount of boxes, which will include hand-dipped strawberries, homemade truffles, brownies and heart-shaped cookies, as well as a couple of roses and a reproduced vintage Valentine card, for $30 each.

To reserve a box, call the Historical Society at 870-862-9890. Boxes may be picked up at the Newton House Museum, 510 N. Jackson St., from noon-3 p.m. Feb. 14, and delivery to a downtown office also can be arranged.

Go Red Luncheon set for Feb. 20

The annual Go Red Luncheon, which benefits the American Heart Association and the Medical Center of South Arkansas Auxiliary, will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Griffin Music Hall.

The event features a variety of heart health screenings, as well as a silent auction, lunch and a program. The event will also include a drawing for a .5 carat diamond and white gold necklace donated by Murphy-Pitard Jewelers. Tickets for the drawing are $10 each.

The silent auction and heart health screenings will begin at 11 a.m., with the lunch and program beginning at noon. Tickets are available for $30 each.
