Members of Maverick Cowboy Church in Urbana gathered and prayed at the entrance to El Dorado High School Sunday.

As Union County kids head back to school this week, members of the church felt that praying for the students, teachers and staff of Union County schools was something that needed to be done.

“Strong was the first place we went," said Pastor Chad White.

The group’s goal is to go to each school within the county, some of whose children attend the schools, and pray for the students, teachers and staff at those locations.

“Its not only important to pray for the protection of my children, but for everybody else’s child," White said.

With school shootings and other safety challenges confronting school-aged children and teachers, congregates say they believe taking the initiative to go to each school’s location and pray is vitally important and helpful.

“Its done out of love,” said White.

Although this is the first year, the church members plan to make it an annual event.
