Stop the Bleed

Immediate responder: During the day Friday, Fire Chief Chad Mosby and Karen Wolfe, nurse at Barton Junior High School, lead three classes using Stop the Bleed curriculum. The classes, geared toward teachers and administrators in El Dorado, covered steps to follow during a life-threatening situation. While public discussion has been focused on mass shootings in schools, the techniques covered such as the use of a tourniquet and wound stuffing, can be used in other situations where somebody is bleeding out. Approximately 50 people between the different schools came to these classes and Wolfe is discussing having another set of classes on Thursday. Wolfe said people in a situation are the immediate responders while an EMT is a first responder.
