Junction City clinches top seed for district tournament

JUNCTION CITY - Junction City clinched the top seed for next week's 8-3A District Tournament by continuing their bludgeoning of opponents.

The Dragons wrapped up the top seed by knocking off Drew Central 16-1 on Wednesday in 3A-4A District 12 play to extend their winning streak to six straight.

Earlier this week, the Dragons topped McGehee 21-0.

During their winning streak, the Dragons (20-7, 12-1) have outscored their opponents 90-11.

Junction City hosts Smackover today in their league finale. They finish the regular season on Tuesday at McCrory.

Brock McGoogan has been blistering hot at the plate during the Dragons' winning streak.

Against McGehee, McGoogan went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a two-run homer to finish with seven RBIs.

In the Dragons' win at Drew Central last week, McGoogan hit a grand slam and drove in five runs.

On Wednesday, McGoogan hit another grand slam, his third over the last week, and his second in as many days.

He also singled and doubled, finishing with six RBIs.

Over his last six games, McGoogan has hit six home runs and has driven in 24 runs, with 13 of those RBIs coming in his last two games.

Charles Hoof also has enjoyed a solid week for the Dragons.

Against the Owls, Hoof drove in four runs, hitting a two-run homer along with a single and a double.

In the win against Drew Central, Hoof collected two more RBIs on a pair of sacrifice flies.

Clay Jolley had a pair of singles and three RBIs at McGehee while adding a single and an RBI against Drew Central.

Keelan Hodge had two singles and drove in two runs against the Owls before recording a base hit against the Pirates.

Tanner McLelland had two singles and an RBI in the win over McGehee while chipping in with a single and an RBI against Drew Central.

Bryce Ware had two singles and Jack Smith had a single and an RBI in Wednesday's win.

The Dragons' pitching has also been solid during their winning streak.

Hodge and Ware combined on a two-hit shutout at McGehee.

A sophomore, Hodge allowed two hits over three scoreless innings. He struck out three and didn't issue any walks.

Ware struck out four over two hitless innings with no walks in relief.

Against the Pirates, Ty Disotell fired a five-hitter.

He walked one and struck out seven.
