Fallen Tree

Strong winds: An oak tree in the backyard of Terry and Annette Sturgis’ home at 2105 Helena St. uprooted Tuesday, landing on the roof of their bedroom. The Sturgis’ were inside the home when the tree fell Tuesday afternoon, but no one was injured. “The rest of the house is fine, it was just that one room,” Annette Sturgis said. “If anyone needs a tree, come and get it.” Terry said the tree has withstood tornadoes and bad storms, but the wind was blowing “just a little harder” than normal. According to the National Weather Service, a lake wind advisory was in effect in Union County throughout most of the day Tuesday. According to the service, a series of storm systems is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to the region late Thursday night through Saturday, and then again Sunday and Monday. Other areas of the state were expected to see strong storms Tuesday followed by plunging temperatures, with areas in northern and western Arkansas placed under a freeze warning Tuesday night.
