Bucks outlast Beavers

News-Times Staff

LAKE VILLAGE - It wasn’t pretty, but Smackover will certainly take it.

Dexter Crockett scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 24-yard run in the third quarter and intercepted a pass in the final minutes of regulation, as the Bucks outlasted Lake Village 12-8 in a 6-3A contest on Friday night.

Trailing 8-6 at intermission, Crockett scored with 8:24 left in the third period to give the Bucks (3-2, 2-0) a 12-8 edge.

The defense took over from there, keeping the Beavers (2-3, 1-1) at bay with Crockett tipping the ball to himself to intercept a pass and seal the victory.

Smackover drew first blood when Damarous White scored on an 8-yard run with 18 seconds left in the first period.

However, Lake Village took their first lead of the game with 6:15 left in the first half, as Aarion Kilgore scored on a 1-yard run. Kilgore’s pass to Ashton Norman made the two-point conversion successful, giving the Beavers an 8-6 lead.

But Crockett’s touchdown in the third period proved to be the difference for the Bucks, who held the Beavers to just 159 yards of total offense.

White led Smackover’s ground attack, tallying 120 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

Crockett added 50 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Roshard Boone finished 11-of-22 passing for 68 yards and an interception for the Bucks, who finished with 230 yards of total offense.

Boone’s 11 completions went to five different receivers with White and George Williams catching three passes apiece for 20 and 11 yards respectively.

Jaqueze Modica and Cade Schibler each caught two passes with Peyton Jones adding one reception.

Smackover will conclude their two-game road swing next week at Drew Central.
