Junction City junior high remains undefeated

SMACKOVER - Gabe Richard had a big evening, throwing four touchdown passes and running for another, as Junction City's junior high football team remained undefeated by topping Smackover 50-14 on Thursday night.

The win places the Dragons (7-0) in next week's 6-3A championship game against either Fordyce or McGehee.

Richard opened the scoring by finding Wizdom Brown on a 48-yard strike to make it 6-0.

Richard then used his feet for the Dragons' second touchdown by scoring on a 3-yard run to extend the lead to 12-0.

Junction City led by the same score after the opening stanza, but Smackover cut into the lead with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion.

But the Dragons quickly regained the momentum, as Richard threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Williams, and Jaimarious Frazier's successful run on the two-point conversion gave the Dragons a 20-8 lead.

Richard then found Williams again, this time on a 25-yard collaboration, and Frazier's second straight successful run on the two-point conversion pushed the lead to 28-8, which was the score at intermission.

After two successful tries on two-point conversions, Frazier scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns in the game, scoring on a 5-yard run to open the third-quarter scoring.

After the Bucks scored to make it 34-14, Frazier scored on a 20-yard run to make it 40-14.

In the final stanza, the Dragons' defense recorded a safety to increase the margin to 42-14 before Richard capped his big game with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Devontay Gilbert.

Jamal Johnson's successful run on the two-point conversion made the final margin.

Barton rolls past Camden Fairview 32-6

Barton's eighth-grade football team continued its perfect season by knocking off Camden Fairview 32-6 at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.

Sharmon Rester threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another for the Wildkittens (7-0).

After the schools played to a scoreless first quarter, the Wildkittens opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Rester to Jackie Washington.

On the ensuing possession, Washington made a huge play on defense, intercepting a pass and returning it 97 yards for a touchdown to make it 13-0 after Oscar Sanchez's extra point was good.

Barton's defense came up with another turnover to keep the visitors off the scoreboard, as Mario Ganter intercepted a pass to preserve Barton's 13-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Rester broke free for an 83-yard touchdown run to give Barton a 19-0 edge.

Leading by the same score after three periods, the Wildkittens scored twice in the final stanza to seal the victory.

Rester threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Washington, this collaboration spanning 70 yards, to push the lead to 26-0.

Barton's final touchdown came through the air, as Austin Jobe connected with Kamron Bibby on a 25-yard strike.
