Buckaroos beat St. Stephens & St. Agnes

ORLANDO, Fla. - Smackover's baseball team opened play Sunday in the Wide World of Sports Classic. The Buckaroos knocked off St. Stephens & St. Agnes School of Alexandria, Va., 9-5 and improved to 5-7 on the season.

Smackover will face Charlotte County Day School (N.C.) today at 10:30 a.m.

Beau Burson struck out 11 batters to earn the victory on the mound. Burson surrendered five runs but just one earned while allowing six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Weston Smith came on to strike out the final batter.

Smackover scored four runs in the second. Burson stroked a three-run triple and Smith drove in a run with a double.

The Bucks tacked on three more in the fourth. Baylor Brumley drove in a run with a ground out and Smith had a RBI single. Alex Savage had a two-out, run-scoring single in the fifth.

Smith was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Burson was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Savage had two hits and drove in a run. Josh Saulsbury was 2-for-2 and Alex Burris also had a hit for the Bucks.
