Smackover rolls past Hamburg

SMACKOVER - Smackover continued their outstanding start to the season on Wednesday by cruising to a 15-5 win over Hamburg in Class 3A-4A District 12 action.

Mallory Brewer fired a five-hitter and struck out 12 for the Lady Bucks (12-2, 5-0), who stayed unbeaten in league play.

Brewer picked up her strikeouts in bunches, striking out the side in the first and second innings before registering two strikeouts in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Brewer walked one to pick up the win, and she had plenty of help from the Lady Bucks' bats.

Tessa Watson had a perfect day at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Karli Goocher went 3-for-5 with a pair of singles, a double and three RBIs.

Joining Goocher with three hits was Reagan Richardson, who was 3-for-4 with two triples, a single and four RBIs.

Lydia Pullin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Sabrina Estridge was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Megan Mullins was 1-for-1 in the win.

Abbi Crawford, who threw a no-hitter against Emerson last weekend at the El Dorado Chemical Classic, went 1-for-2 with a double in the win.

While the Lady Bucks were able to come away with a win, the Bucks on the baseball diamond fell to the Lions 13-3.

Beau Burson went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Bucks (3-7), who will take on Warren this afternoon at Norphlet.

Brennan McKnight, Clay Stringer, Tucker Evans, Baylor Brumley and Nick Jennings each had one for the Bucks, who had eight singles in the contest.

Smackover scored two runs in the third.

After Jennings and Burson singled, Weston Smith hit a ground ball that was misplayed for an error, allowing Jennings to score.

Burson went to third on the play and scored on a sacrifice fly by McKnight.

Burson capped the Bucks' scoring with a two-out RBI single in the fourth.

Smith suffered the loss on the mound after allowing seven runs (five earned) in 2 1/3 innings.

He gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out two.

Evans surrendered seven hits and six runs (five earned) in 2 2/3 innings in relief. He walked three and struck out two.
