Extreme landscaping

Out with the old: Members of the Union County Master Gardeners, from left, Melba Ainsworth, Jean Eckert, Barbie Luther and Charlotte Abbott, watch as Union County workers remove holly bushes and red-tipped photinia from around the Barton Library in El Dorado. Workers started on the project earlier this week, but rain hampered efforts on Thursday and Friday. Union County Judge Mike Loftin and his crew, at the request of the Master Gardeners, removed many of the 60-year-old shrubs and Master Gardeners are making plans to plant new flowers and bushes, with plans to complete the project in time for the Murphy Arts District events scheduled for the end of September.
