OTIS R. SCOTT

Otis Raymond Scott, 74, of El Dorado died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born on Sept. 1, 1942 to Bishop Sam Scott and Artelia Jennette Thompson Scott.

At an early age, Otis taught himself how to play the guitar and later he taught others. He traveled the country with his father, a pastor, and played at revivals, on street corners and at tent ministries. He served as a member and as guitarist at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, where his father was pastor. Otis was a talented guitarist and he played for country clubs in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He was later sought out to play back up for entertainers such as House Rockers, GTO Band under Morris Graham, Bobby Blue Blann, Johnny Taylor, B.B. King and others.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Elder Clara Wade Scott; two daughters, Angela Rhodes and Jacqueline Harris; eight siblings, Annie Louise LeVert of Pontiac, Mich., Sammie Jean Pierce of Pensacola, Fla., Jennette Artelia Scott of El Dorado, Gwendolyn Faye Washington of Houston, Cynthia Marie Scott of New York, N.Y., the Rev. Tyree Scott of St. Louis, Mo., the Rev. Dwight Scott of Kansas City, Mo. and the Rev. Lloyd Scott of Port Arthur, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tyree Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. The family will meet at 422 Liberty St., El Dorado.
