La. man arrested in connection with fatal shooting

FARMERVILLE, La. — Shonejerral Richard, 39, of Marion, La., was arrested by Union Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies Friday morning in connection with the shooting and death of Curry Bolton of Strong.

He is facing the following criminal charges: capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Bolton was shot and killed Tuesday morning when unknown men allegedly broke into his home, harassed his family and stole his belongings.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office received the call from dispatch around 7 a.m., and en route to the residence, deputies learned the victim’s wife drove Bolton to the the Ashley County Medical Center 25 miles away in Crossett. He died while being treated for his wounds in the hospital.

Union Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Richard around 10:35 a.m. on Friday while he was working at a construction site in Farmerville, La., said Sheriff Dusty Gates.

He is being held without bond at the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office and is pending extradition to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Union County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the arrest of Richard on Friday and is continuing the investigation around Bolton’s death. After narrowing down suspects, the sheriff’s office contacted the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office about the investigation, which led them to Richard.
