An El Dorado woman and a Crossett man have been selected as the 2017 beneficiaries of the Charity Concert Choir, the annual fundraiser which is set for 6 p.m. Sunday in Strong.
The concert will be held at Curry Chapel A.M.E., 250 F St. The event is free and open to the public.
The Charity Concert Choir was founded in 2000 with a mission to assist disadvantaged families and area citizens who have been stricken with serious illness that has devastated their finances.
The goal of the choir was to use gospel music minister to and inspire those who receive help from the choir, founders have said.
The Charity Concert Choir’s flagship event is a gospel music extravaganza that is held each winter.
Through its annual fundraiser, the choir has assisted more than 40 families in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
The choir also makes charitable contributions to area nursing homes and other organizations.
This year’s beneficiaries are Josephine Harris and Gregory L. Goldsby.
Harris, of El Dorado, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in April, and she is undergoing chemotherapy treatments at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Because of the treatments and travel, Harris is sometimes away from home for up to three weeks.
Concert organizers said Harris also has to make several trips to Little Rock for medical laboratory services.
Concert organizers said Harris has applied for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits but has not yet been approved.
She is married to Anthony Harris and is a member of Curry Chapel.
Six months ago, Crossett residence Goldsby was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer and is undergoing treatment.
The effects of the treatment has hindered his ability to work, and his work week is limited to two days, organizers said, adding that Goldsby’s health insurance does cover all of his medical expenses.
