WILMA B. STARK

WILMA B. STARK

Wilma B. Stark, 90, of El Dorado, passed away on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at Oak Ridge Nursing Home in El Dorado, with her daughter Kathy by her side.

She was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Hoffman, Oklahoma to Sterling Brown and Elsie Watts Herriman.

Wilma grew up on a farm during the Dust Bowl years where she was no stranger to adversity. She developed what many refer to as a strong character and a personality with great sweetness. After graduating as valedictorian at Hitchita High School she went to Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, then married Joseph Stark and raised four children in Oklahoma City before moving when Joe’s work took them to Hurst, Texas. In Hurst, she worked outside the home while attending night classes to finish her degree in education, which eventually led to being part of one of the first Head Start programs in the Hurst Euless Bedford School System. After retirement, she and Joe moved to Canton, Texas where they enjoyed life and friends for almost 30 years. Wilma taught Sunday School classes throughout the early years in Oklahoma City and her remarkable faithfulness continued in Canton where she and Joe shared in the joy of Jesus with all at Martins Mill Baptist Church. While at Oak Ridge, Wilma continued to enjoy the fun things in life, especially her bingo and Sunday School classes while in the care of several kind and caring people.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her loving husband of 66 years, Joe Stark; a son, Michael Stark; a brother, Oswald Herriman; and sisters, Hazel Farmer, Dessa Alyea, and Lois Estep.

Survivors include her sister, Bernice Wooten of Newton, Kansas; daughters, Beverly Stark of Keller, Texas, Betty Berry (Stuart) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Kathy Beasley (Tom) of El Dorado; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, Texas Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, an hour prior to services at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Matt Parker officiating.

Interment will follow in the Haven of Memories Memorial Park. Local arrangements are through Young’s Funeral Directors. An online guest registry will be available at www.youngsfuneralhome.com.
