The 13th Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocates and KIX103 will host its 15th annual Make A Smile Happen Toy Drive from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today at Walmart Super Center on North West Avenue. The toy drive will continue from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow.

South Arkansas Fights AIDS will hold a World AIDS Day service at 5:30 p.m. today in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in El Dorado. The SAFA board will meet briefly at 5 p.m. and the service will start at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship after the service.

The Smackover Downtown Christmas Celebration is scheduled for 6 p.m. today in Kennedy Park on Broadway. The event will include the lighting ceremony for the town Christmas tree and of Eddie’s Cross, an 82-year-old tradition that will be narrated by Mayor Bobby Neal. Santa is also expected to make an appearance.

Saturday, Dec. 2

The South Arkansas Arts Center will host a day of celebrating its members beginning at noon Saturday at the arts center, 110 E. Fifth St.

Stephanie Lowrey’s ballet classes will dance to the “Waltz of the Snowflake” at noon, followed by Amy Allen’s Glee students, who will perform “Hollywood Hits” on stage at 12:30 p.m. Voice and piano students of Charlsie Falcon will participate in a recital on stage in the Callaway Theater at 6 p.m.

The Membership Exhibition will hang in the Price and Merkle Galleries. Visual arts students, taught by Mike Means and Maria and Jorge Villegas, will exhibit their artwork in the Lobby Gallery. An artists’ reception will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday.

“Christmas on Broadway” is set for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday in Smackover. The event will include a Christmas open house by Smackover merchants, pop-up shops, and food trucks. Participating merchants will be serving refreshments, holding drawings for prizes that will include one-of-a-kind gifts and gift certificates, and offering specials.
