El Dorado police are investigating a shooting that left a man injured Wednesday night in the parking lot of a local church.

Officers responded at 10 p.m. to a report of a shooting near St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1018 Wilson, and found 24-year-old Antonio J. Wilson, who provided an address in Little Rock, in the west front parking lot with a gunshot wound to the upper right leg.

Wilson was treated on the scene by El Dorado Fire Department emergency medical technicians and later transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas for further treatment.

His injuries were not life threatening, said Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department.

Witnesses in the area told police that they heard gunshots and when they looked outside, they saw two vehicles — a white Chevrolet pickup truck and a dark colored car that was similar in style to a Chevrolet Monte Carlo — in the St. John parking lot.

They said the vehicles left the area, heading east on Wilson.

Holt said investigators spoke with Wilson in the hospital.

“We were able to get some information that we e are following up on, but it’s not information we’re ready to release yet,” Holt said.

He encouraged anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call investigators at 870-881-4810 or Crime Stoppers at 870-863-INFO (4636).
