Lady Bucks take fourth in state golf tournament

FAIRFIELD BAY - Smackover’s girls golf team concluded their season on Tuesday by finishing fourth at the 3A State Tournament.

Bismarck won the state crown with a team score of 307. Melbourne was second, while Bald Knob was third.

The Lady Bucks finished with a team score of 344.

Lexi Gilbert shot a 106 to earn All-State honors for the Lady Bucks.

“We had one girl who played in one varsity match when we started,” said Smackover coach Mike Poff. “It shows how hard they worked. We’ve come a long ways.”

Junction City junior Rachel Pepper also competed, shooting a 123.

JONESBORO - El Dorado's Gabrien Parker and Abigail Van Sickle advanced to the 6A State Golf Tournament Tuesday at the Jonesboro Country Club. Parker, a sophomore, earned All-Conference and All-State honors, shooting 94-94 for a two-day 188.

Van Sickle, a junior, shot 113-107 to finish with a 220.

Jonesboro's Mary-Claire Meredith earned medalist honors with 85-77-162. Jonesboro also won the team title (552) over Searcy (570).

The 6A-West winner was decided on Monday. Siloam Springs won the team title. Greenwood's Sydnie Gamble shot 82-83-165 to claim league medalist. El Dorado's Cara Looney shot 125 to go with Parker's 94 and Van Sickle's 113.

BLYTHEVILLE - Parkers Chapel's Allison Young and Hannah Wall competed in the 2A State Golf Tournament Tuesday at Thunder Bayou. Young scored 115 for a personal best. Wall, competing in her third state tournament, shot 120.
