EL DORADO - The Overall State Tennis Tournament begins Wednesday at Burns Park in North Little Rock. Parkers Chapel’s colors will be proudly displayed as five Trojans and two Lady Trojans qualified for the prestigious event.

Parkers Chapel won the boys 2A state championship last week at the Racquet Club.

Senior Kade Cushing won the 2A boys singles championship and will take on Kyle Hudson of Pottsville in the first round. Hudson was the runner-up in Class 4A.

Both of Parkers Chapel’s boys doubles teams qualified led by seniors Grant Brumley and Trace Blaylock, who won the 2A boys doubles championship. Brumley and Blaylock will play Monticello’s Clint Pigott and Seth Horne in the first round. Pigott and Horne are the Class 4A doubles runners-up.

Parkers Chapel’s Austin Fruge and Michael Brotherton, who finished second in the 2A tournament, will face Little Rock Catholic’s Jackson Davis and Phillip Abston. Davis and Abston were the runners-up in Class 7A.

Allison Rogers and Bailey Norwood, who led the Lady Trojans to second place in the 2A State Tournament, won the girls doubles titles for the second year in a row. Rogers and Norwood will meet Mountain Home’s Maddy Lewis and Cara Conner in the first round.

Lewis and Conner, who knocked off El Dorado’s Megan Barker and Abigail Van Sickle 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the 6A Tournament last week, were the Class 6A runners-up.

First round matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
