EL DORADO — An arrest warrant has been issued and El Dorado police are searching for a suspect who has been accused in a shooting that left a North Carolina man hospitalized with critical injuries.

Shaverrick D. Reed, 29, of El Dorado, is wanted for first-degree battery, aggravated robbery, and felony with a firearm in connection to the shooting of 38-year-old Thomas Bradshaw.

The incident occurred on April 30 at Econolodge, 1920 Junction City Road, where Bradshaw — a contractor working on an expansion project at El Dorado Chemical Company — was staying, police said.

Officers responded at 11:43 p.m. to a report of a shooting inside a room at the motel.

Upon arrival, they found a man lying just inside the door of room 141, and officers said he appeared to have been shot.

Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department, said the man was identified as Bradshaw, and he sustained multiple injuries.

Bradshaw was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas and was later transferred to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he remained Wednesday in critical condition.

Holt said Bradshaw’s girlfriend was inside his room when the shooting occurred, and she was not injured.

Holt said Reed was identified as a suspect through interviews with people who were at Econolodge at the time and evidence that was recovered from the scene.

“We were able to interview the victim as far as getting an ID of the suspect, but we have not been able to speak to him any further due to his medical condition,” Holt said.

The police probe into the shooting is continuing, and so far, investigators have pointed to robbery as a motive for the shooting, he said.

“To our knowledge, there is no connection between the two, and as far as if anything was taken, that’s what we’re still working on. That’s part of the ongoing investigation. We’re still interviewing people,” Holt said.

Police have searched in vain for Reed in El Dorado and believe he has fled to Louisiana or Texas.

Holt said police records list 1221 N. Mosby as a local address for Reed.

Reed is described as a black male, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 245 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Reed is considered armed and dangerous, and police advise civilians and law enforcement officers to use extreme caution if they encounter him.

Anyone with information on Reed’s whereabouts is urged to call Sgt. Scott Harwell or Detective Ryan Landers of the EPD’s Criminal Investigative Division at 881-4810 or Crime Stoppers at 863-INFO (4636).

All calls will be kept confidential and information leading to Reed’s arrest could result in an award of up to $1,000.
