US Coast Guard Birthday

Life Touch’s Operation Appreciation and PJ’s Coffee will celebrate the 226 birthday of the US Coast Guard by treating all US military, past or present, to a free cup of coffee and a cookie at THE SPOT on the square in El Dorado from 9 until 10 a.m. Aug. 4.

Celebrating the birthdays of the branches of our armed forces is one way Operation Appreciation honors our veterans and shows gratitude for our current servicemen and servicewomen.

American Legion

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary is now accepting applications for indoor and outdoor spaces for the Fall Flea Market from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. September 17.

Breakfast of sausage and pancakes will be served from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m.

There will be hamburgers and hot dogs served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. by the Legion Riders.

There will also be a bouncy house for children. Come and make it a family fun day. All proceeds go to support veterans in Union County.

Tea Time

Area girls and young women ages 10 to 20 are invited to Tea Time, which will be held from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at 2710 N. West Ave. (behind Taco Bell).

The event is being presented by the Shaping Hardworking Individuals for the Future (S.H.I.F.T) Program.

The theme is “Girls Talk But Real Talk.” Discussion topics will include Peer Pressure, Dealing with Criticism, Whatever Happened to Good Manners, and Sexting Kills.

Those who are planning to attend Tea Time are asked to wear their “prettiest party dress and hat.”

The event is free.

Operation Appreciation

Life Touch Hospice’s Operation Appreciation and PJ’s Coffee will celebrate the 226th birthday of the nation’s Coast Guard by treating all United States military, past and present, to a free cup of coffee and a cookie from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 4 at The Spot on the square, located at 106 West Main Street in El Dorado.

Celebrating the birthdays of the branches of the armed forces is one of the ways that Operation Appreciation honors veterans and shows gratitude to current servicemen and servicewomen.

City Commission Vacancies

The city of El Dorado is looking to fill positions that will soon be open on two city commissions.

Sandy Sanford, a member of the El Dorado Parks and Playgrounds Commission, previously announced that he will be stepping down when his term expires on Sept. 1.

Parks and playgrounds Commissioner John Thomas Shepherd’s term also expires on Sept. 1, and Shepherd has said he would like to serve another term.

Roger Landes has said he will step down from the El Dorado Planning and Zoning Commission when his term expires on Aug. 25.

Planning and zoning member Janice Long’s term also expires on Aug. 25, and she has expressed interest in serving another term.

Both commissions will make recommendations for Mayor Frank Hash to reappoint Shepherd and Long.

Anyone who is interested in filling vacancies that will be left by Sanford and Landes may request an application by calling the city clerk’s office at 870-881-4877.
