Veterans Justice Outreach Program reschedules to June 16

CAMDEN – The Veterans Justice Outreach Program previously scheduled for May 8 has been rescheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 16 in the Ouachita County Courthouse, Courtroom A, 145 Jefferson St., Camden.

According to Judge Hamilton Singleton, “there is a grave concern regarding the number of veterans involved in crimes prosecuted in all our courts and incarcerated in our jails.

This program intends to provide services to work with our existing programs and/or in a stand-alone capacity.”

All circuit and district judges, prosecuting attorney’s office employees, public defenders, sheriff’s office employees, probation officers and all other interested court personnel are urged to attend.

Sanitation Department to close for Memorial Day

The El Dorado Sanitation Department will observe Memorial Day on Monday and garbage trucks will run Tuesday through Friday instead of Monday through Thursday, according to Ray Johnson, sanitation supervisor.

“This will apply to all handicap pick-up as well,” he said.

Drug Initiative Workshop to be held in Hope

HOPE – An Anti-psychotropic Drug Initiative Workshop, open to the public, will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 26 at Hempstead Hall at the University of Arkansas College of Hope.

The event is being hosted by the Southwest Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, which includes several counties in Arkansas, including Union, Calhoun, Columbia, Dallas and Ouachita, according to Doris Chaney.

Those participating in the Drug Initiative Workshop will receive three continuing education units.
