Reader questions delivery practices of pair of carriers

To the Editor:

Can somebody tell me what’s up with UPS and FedEx? Use to, they would knock on your door, and you would sign the delivery book to prove that you had gotten your package. Now, they don’t even knock or ring the doorbell. I’m diabetic and receive my insulin by UPS. It is packed in a styrofoam cooler with that gel ice stuff, but by the time it gets to my house, most of that is defrosted. UPS puts it at my front door, which I rarely use. If they would ring the doorbell, so I could bring it inside, there would be no problem. But they don’t and the package will sit for a day or two. Whatever happened to customer service?

For the people who complain about the closing of Hollywood Street. What did you do before that street was built? Cut through the woods? No. You used Hillsboro, so what’s your problem? If you don’t live there, it’s none of your business.

Local woman experiences special act of kindness

To the Editor:

I have heard of the kindness of strangers and now I have been the recipient.

Wednesday, March 4, between the many showers that fell on the city, I stopped by the News-Times to pick up microfilm for geneology research. I did not take my umbrella because it was not raining at the time. You guessed it. The rain, a heavy downpour, returned and I was trapped. Not wanting to get my new perm wet, I had no choice but to wait. And then, an angel came to my rescue. Martha left her desk and, with umbrella open, walked me to my car.

Thank you, Martha. I will always treasure your sweet deed.

Reader appreciates those who shared retirement event

To the Editor:

The family of Sis. Annie Faison would like to thank everyone who came and shared the retirement program given on February 28, 2015, at 2:30. Thank you for giving Sis. Faison flowers while they can be seen, felt, and touched.

We were overwhelmed with the outpouring of generosity of everyone who came out on that day. To those who wanted to be a part of this day but couldn’t find a place to park, we thank you too! We recognize and appreciate the fact that although the weather wasn’t the greatest it didn’t dampen your desire to come and show your love for Sis. Faison. God is good and He is greatly to be praised!

The program would not have been what it was without each of you, and we thank you. Thank you for the love shown and the giving of your time to attend. Special thanks to the New Eastside church family for showing their love in organizing this event, thank you.

May the Lord hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.(Romans 14:13)
