Jr. ELK Herd No. 473 to have annual awards banquet

The Jr. ELK Herd No. 473 will be having their annual Black & White Recognition Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Gusher Lodge Home at 19th and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The purpose of the awards banquet is to give special recognition to individuals who have made valuable contributions to the community, to the lives of the young people, who excelled in the classroom in spite of difficult circumstances and who demonstrated that academics and athletics can be balanced in the lives of young people.

The awards given this year will be the Jr. ELK‘s Excellence, Student Athlete of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Community Leader and Man of the Year.

The Jr. ELK Herd No. 473 is an auxiliary of Gusher Lodge No. 560, which strives to impact the lives of young black men, promote academics and teach needed life skills that will enable them to be a positive presence within the community.

Also during the banquet, this semester pledge class will be introduced.

Tickets are still available at $10 and can be purchased at the door. The theme for this year’s event is “Young Men of Genius, Class and Style.”
