A domestic violence incident became a charge of aggravated assault against a family or household member and terroristic threatening when Donald Barge became involved in a physical altercation with the victim. He allegedly said, “I am going to cut your throat before they (the police) get here.” The victim left his residence and reported the event to the El Dorado Police Department. After reviewing his request for a court-appointed attorney, Union County District Court Judge George VanHook, denied the request.

Bond was set at $10,000, cash or corporate surety, with a curfew from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. and a work exemption. He is to have no contact with the victim. Barge requested a signatory bond. His request was denied.

When he appeared before VanHook, he appeared to be unaware, had to be re-directed to stand behind the podium, raised his left hand instead of his right, said, “I’ve been in here two days. I won’t ever do it again.” Bond was not set. VanHook set a trial date of July 29.

Friday, in Union County District Court Aaron Lewis was charged with fleeing and battery of a police officer. He was issued a $50,000 bond of any form acceptable to the sheriff. On June 23, at 11:30 p.m., Lewis and a companion were stopped as they walked along the road. After giving a false name and further questioning, Lewis said he might have a parole warrant. When the officer started to arrest him, Lewis fled from the officer who commanded the county sheriff’s dog to apprehend him. The dog bit Lewis’ left arm, Lewis hit the dog. The dog let go. Lewis escaped. The dog’s injuries were photographed. Lewis was picked up on June 24.
