Calion City Hall to be closed for holiday

CALION – Calion City Hall will be closed on Friday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Summer camp will host luncheon

The “Waiting to Excel” summer camp will be hosting their second annual luncheon to honor armed forces veterans and those still serving on active duty, at noon today at the St. John Baptist Church Family Life Building, 1016 E. Wilson.

All veterans and active duty service men and women are invited to attend and are encouraged to bring military gear to show students. The event is being sponsored by the Fairview Community Development Association and St. John Baptist Church.

ELKS to sponsor Grown Folks Party

The ELKS will have a Grown Folks Party with doors opening at 9 p.m. today and Friday at the ELKS Lodge in El Dorado. The party is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. both nights. Admittance is $5.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, fireworks will be displayed, with a cover charge of $7. For more information, contact Wm. Jerome Robinson.

Governor announces appointments

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday announced the following appointments:

• Jan Sims, El Dorado, to the Arkansas Suicide Prevention Council. Appointment will expire on June 4, 2019.

•Judge David Talley, Magnolia, to the Arkansas Public Defender Commission. Appointment will expire on July 1, 2016 and he will replace Larry Chandler.

El Dorado offices will close Friday

All offices for the city of El Dorado, with the exception of the police and fire departments, will be closed Friday for Independence Day.
