County Reports:

• On Monday, a Union County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to Hickory Street in reference to a vehicle being shot. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a woman that said she was startled awake at 3:45 a.m. by the sound of gun shots. She said she heard approximately six shots fired. After she heard the shots, she looked out the window and then walked outside and found the back glass of her 2000 Ford Expedition had been shot. As the deputy examined the vehicle, it was noted that a bullet exit hole was in the front windshield. No casings were located. The woman told the deputy that she thought she heard someone running behind her residence, but upon examination by the deputy, no shoe prints were found. The deputy patrolled the area, but no vehicles were on the road at that time, according to the report.

• On Saturday, a deputy was dispatched to Calion Highway in reference to a woman wanting to report that her neighbor’s water was running across her yard. Upon arrival, deputy met with a woman stating that her neighbor, the owner of a local restaurant, had been pumping water onto her land for years. She has asked him to fix the issue, though it has been ongoing. The deputy observed the water hose and two very large, wet areas in her back yard. The woman told the deputy she would be calling the Health Department and the deputy advised her that it would be her best bet.

County Arrests:

• On Sunday, a deputy was dispatched to North Pine Street in Calion in reference to a domestic fight involving Christopher Burke, 19, of Calion, his grandparents and his mother. A deputy responded to the scene, which was the grandmother’s property, according to the report. Burke’s family explained to the deputy that he was under the influence of narcotics the previous night and he was confrontational and violent. The family had been up all night dealing with his conduct and had grown tired, deciding to contact the sheriff’s office. Burke lived with his grandmother, but she told the deputy she wanted him to leave. The deputy told Burke he needed to leave the residence until he was sober. Burke was also told that he could work out arrangements for his return if his grandmother allowed it. Later that day, a deputy was dispatched again to the residence after Burke had returned to the property to allegedly take a shower. Upon arrival, all family members were present, including Burke. His mother said he returned shortly after officers left. Burke’s grandmother said that she did not give permission for him to come back to the property. At that time, Burke was placed under arrest, without incident, for criminal trespass. He was transported to the UCSO jail to be booked, processed and held pending his bond or first appearance in court.
