El Dorado to host golf season opener

The field is set for the 20th annual Simmons Bank/Wildcat Golf Invitational. The 2015 high school golf season will tee off Monday at 10 a.m. at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club.

The contestants will represent nine different schools. El Dorado will host fellow 6A-South members Benton, Lake Hamilton, Sheridan and Texarkana; 7A Bryant and Conway; 5A Hot Springs Lakeside; and 4A Central Arkansas Christian.

Individually, Conway's Carter Cloe and El Dorado's Pete Carroll are the highest ranked in the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior boys standings out of the field of competitors. Conway's Sydney Stiener, Olivia Parker, Logan Tolliver and CAC's Alexa Goodlow and Cheyenne Butler are the highest ranked junior girls.

Carroll is joined by four senior Wildcats - Jay Brooks, Brady Moore, Baylee George and Keyshawne Denny. Noah Gaul, Jax Sanford and Jonathan Jones will also compete for El Dorado. The El Dorado girls team members are Alexis Simmons, Abigail Van Sickle, Gabrien Parker, Carly Sivils and Cara Looney.

"I am anxious to see how we stack up against the schools in the 6A South," said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. "This will be the first event of the season. Starting off at our home course and in a large, highly competitive field will test us and give immediate feedback on where we are as a team. The schools from the other classifications are some of the best teams in their classifications."

The Simmons Bank/Wildcat Golf Invitational is the state longest running tournament. Ezell said, "Their continued support of the El Dorado Golf program has made this event one of the most prestigious events in the state."
