In the Churches

• Maple Avenue Baptist Church: Revival services will be held at the church, 1306 Maple, Smackover, with services beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. Special guest speaker will be Lyndon Longoria and music will be provided by Price Harris. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday for family supper in the Life Center at the church. On Wednesday, a youth pizza blast will be held. The theme of the revival is “Not Ashamed,” Romans 1:16.

• New Beginning Church of God in Christ: The first Lady’s Day will be held at the church at 3 p.m. on Sunday to honor Delores Hayes. Guest speaker will be YaLonda Miller and the guest church will be Miles Memorial COGIC. For more information, call 870-814-0372.

• New Hope Baptist Church: The church in Mount Holly will hold its annual homecoming service at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Special guests will be the Rev. Eugene Farley and the congregation of New Olive Branch Baptist Church. Lunch will be served. Revival services will be held at the church at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Guest speakers will be: Monday, the Rev. Wylie George of Sweet Home Baptist Church of Smackover; Tuesday, the Rev. Billy Miller of Mount Willie Baptist Church of El Dorado; Wednesday, the Rev. • Douglas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church: Vacation Bible School will be held at the church, 969 Smackover Highway, from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Aug. 9 -13. The theme will be “Kings and Queens of the Past Witnessing 2 the Future.” There will be food, fellowship and fun for the entire family. For more information, call the church at 862-6318.

• Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church: Vacation Bible School will be presented by Mount Calvary, the Rev. John Elliott, pastor; Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Ray Johnson, pastor and St. John Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Barry Dobson, pastor, at Mount Calvary, 1807 S. West Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The theme is “Adventures at Sea: Diving Deeper for God’s Treasures.” Classes will be held for ages 3 to adult. Everyone is invited to attend.

• First United Methodist Church: The last Round Robin Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the church, 201 S. Hill Ave. Mary Sefzik, a blind musician, will present a program of Fanny Crosby’s music (Crosby was also blind). There will be an ice cream social in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the program. Volunteers are needed to bring ice cream and cookies and ice cream can be homemade or store bought. Volunteers are asked to contact the church at 862-1341. Sefzik will tell about her own life and the life of Crosby and sing several of Crosby’s songs, including “To God Be the Glory,” “All the Way My Savior Leads Me” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.”

• Salem Missionary Baptist Church: Annual homecoming and revival services will be held at the church, 2205 Salem Road, Junction City, beginning with homecoming services at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Revival services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Guest evangelists and churches include: Monday, the Rev. Anthony Traylor, pastor of Sweet Canaan Baptist Church of Smackover; Tuesday, the Rev. Charles Henry, pastor of El Bethel Baptist Church of Three Creeks and Wednesday, the Rev. Wylie George, pastor of Sweet Home Baptist Church of Smackover.

• Trinity Pentecostal Church of God: Pastors Merle and Alice York invite everyone to join them at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the church, 808 S. Murphy Ave., to celebrate their 21 years as pastors. Special speaker will be the Rev. James Copp. Copp and his wife spent many years as missionaries. A special singing will be held during the celebration service.

• Mount Union Baptist Church: The 100-year anniversary celebration of the church will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the church, 653 Mount Union Road, with Dr. Wade Akins as guest speaker. A catered meal will be held at the church following the Sunday morning worship service and an ice cream social will be held following the Sunday evening service, set to begin at 6 p.m. Akins will also be the guest speaker during revival services to be held at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the church. John Ayers is pastor of the church.

• New Home Baptist Church: The annual homecoming and revival services will be held at the church, 1616 New Home Road, Junction City, La., at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Emmanuel Fields Sr. is pastor of the church. Homecoming speaker will be the Rev. Billy Brewster of Pinegrove Baptist Church of Jonesboro, La. Evangelist for the revival services to be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, will be the Rev. Felton Burgie, pastor of Morning Star No. 2 in El Dorado. Everyone is invited to attend.

• New Providence Baptist Church: The church in Norphlet will celebrate the annual homecoming at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Billy Hunter and Good Home Baptist Church of Louann, will be the special guests. Revival services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Rev. Dr. Rory Thompson, pastor of Greater First Baptist Church of Houston, will be the evangelist for the week. Thompson is an El Dorado native and the son of Lovell and Dorothy Thompson of El Dorado. He works with the National Congress of Christian Education’s National Publishing board as director of the Southwest Region II. Special choirs for the week will be: Monday, Sweet Canaan Baptist of Smackover; Tuesday, New Jerusalem Baptist of Louann; Wednesday, Calvary Baptist of Louann and Thursday, New Eastside Baptist Church of El Dorado. Everyone is invited to attend.

• Beulah Grove Missionary Baptist Church: An appreciation program to honor Bro. Carlaskio Smith, will be held at the church at 6 p.m. today. Guest choirs will be Sweet Union Baptist Church, Zion Watch Baptist Church, Abundance of Life Charity Choir, Rejoice and Psalm of Life Memorial Choir.

• Free Union AME Church: The church will have a garage sale and fish-plate fundraiser from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at the home of Dalerica Grimes, 1307 W. Faulkner. Fish plates will cost $7.
