Lady Wildcats compete in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL - El Dorado's softball team traveled to Spring Hill on Saturday and came home with two victories out of the three contests. The Lady Wildcats lost their first game to Harleton, Texas 6-0 but bounced back with wins over Hope (11-0) and Murfreesboro (6-0).

"I thought our girls competed well," said El Dorado coach Michael Brooks. "We faced a Harleton team that was 22-1. They were real good, had a very good pitcher. I thought we played well, even in the first game. Offensively, we had a good weekend. I thought our pitchers had a good weekend, also.

"I thought we did a good job getting two out of three for the weekend."

Senior Heaven Leveritt capped the day by throwing the team's first no-hitter against Murfreesboro. Leveritt walked just three batters while fanning seven in five innings.

"I think the more she threw, the better she got," said Brooks. "She pitched well in relief against Harleton. Then she came back and had all her pitches working. It was good to see her put it all together."

Henley Perry singled, walked and scored two runs against the Lady Rattlers. Marissa Rice and Rebecca Voss both had two singles. Nikki Oliver singled, scored a run and drove in a run. Kelsey Howard singled and scored. Catherine Lansdell had a hit and Marion Thomas scored a run.

The Lady Wildcats broke out the big sticks against Hope with Perry and Rice both hitting homers in the fourth inning. Rice homered, doubled and drove in three runs. Perry homered, doubled and scored three runs. Howard had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs. Oliver had a hit and scored twice. Voss doubled with Lansdell and Leveritt both hitting singles. Thomas and Ariel King each scored a run.

Voss was in command in the circle, allowing just two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in five innings.

Against Harleton, Mekaylan Hicks had two hits and Howard had one in the loss.

Voss started in the circle and surrendered six runs in 2 1/3 innings. Leveritt pitched 1 2/3 in relief.

"Our girls did a good job of adjusting," said Brooks. "Over the weekend, we saw every type of pitcher you could think of. It was good to see them make the adjustments from game-to-game."

The Lady Wildcats ran their overall record to 10-4 on the season. They sit in third place in the 6A-South with a 4-2 league mark, heading into a big week. El Dorado hosts second place Sheridan on Tuesday before going to Texarkana on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats are a game behind the Lady Yellowjackets.

"These two this week are big for us," said Brooks.
