Doris O. Millican, 90, of El Dorado, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Hillsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.

Born on May 23, 1922, in Blevins, she was the daughter of Alvon Blevins Osburn and Clarendear Peyton Osborn.

After graduating from Hope High School, Doris furthered her education by receiving both a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s of Education degree from Henderson State University. She went on to teach fourth grade at Beryl Henry Elementary and was a reading specialist for the Hope Public Schools.

She was a member of College Avenue Church of Christ, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Genealogical Society and Retired Teachers Association. After her retirement, Doris loved to research and compile her family genealogy, to travel, sew and read.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Thomas Jefferson Millican; siblings, Vernon Osburn, Lester Osburn, Joe Osburn, Fadra Hartley, Dorothy Osburn, Gilbert Osburn, Clara Thomas and Bevlie (Pete) Osburn.

Survivors are daughters Carolyn Wilson, of Atlanta, and Mary Beth Moore (Mark), of El Dorado; granddaughters, Liz Williamson (Blake), of El Dorado, Jennifer Cleveland (Derrick), of Tulsa, Okla., and Sheri Flood (Matthew), of Oxnard, Calif. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Grace and Walker Williamson, Laurel Cleveland and Theo and Chayton Flood, and a sister-in-law, Billie Osburn, of Shiner, Texas.                          

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today evening at Young’s Funeral Directors.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the College Avenue Church of Christ with Kent Jobe and Jason Baker officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hope.
