Roy Joseph Labit, 71, of Magnolia passed away March 14, 2013 at home with his family by his side.

He was born in Houma, La. on March 6, 1942 to Leon Paul, Sr. and Marie (Dubois) Labit.

Roy was a longtime member of Life Church of Magnolia. Family life was always important to Roy. He enjoyed spending time with his children and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He raised a large family much like the one he grew up in. Roy enjoyed woodcrafts in spare time and was an avid outdoorsman.

He loved to go hunting and fishing as often as he could. Before he retired, Roy made his living as a truck driver and for more than ten years would make the long journey from the North Pole and transform himself into “Santa” to the delight of hundreds of children. Surely a special place in heaven waits for someone who warmed the hearts of so many.

Preceding him in death are his parents, five brothers, two sisters and one grandson, Aaron Joseph Labit.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine D. Labit of Magnolia; three sons, Thomas Labit of Emerson; Michael Labit and wife, Chrystal of Troup, Texas; Mark Labit of Magnolia; three daughters, Katherine Edwards and husband, Tim of Magnolia; Tammy Dickerson of Houma, La.; Deborah Labit of Magnolia; three brothers, Francis Labit of Louisiana; Phillip Labit of Louisiana; Larry Labit of Tennessee; twenty grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Bailey Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Miller officiating and Pastor Travis McKamie assisting. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
