Shirley Faye Pepper Sumner, 72, of Emerson, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home.

She was born on June 7, 1940, in Union County, was a member of the Emerson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and had a love for animals. She was a registered nurse and worked for Magnolia Hospital for many years and retired from Homer Memorial Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her father, Lawrence James Pepper; her husband, Terry Lewis Sumner; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Lillie Pepper; and maternal grandparents, Pat and Nellie Greer.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Lexie Green Pepper; two brothers. Jerry Pepper and wife Kathy, and Bruce Pepper and wife Donna; two sisters, Carolyn Hendrix and husband Janus, and Beverly McFarland and husband Russell, all of El Dorado; a brother-in-law, Gary Sumner and Debbie Steeley of Farmington, Maine; nieces, nephews and faithful pets Lady Bug and Zack.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eric Goble officiating. Burial was in Stewart Walkerville Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., in Magnolia.

Visitation with the family was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Roberson, Scotty Johnson, Wallace Weaver, Steve Pelts, Dub Sumner, Dalton Dendy and Steve Torres.
